FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Miracle League at Town & Country?

The Miracle League at Town & Country is a league for special needs children that allows them to play baseball. The Miracle League was started in Conyers, Georgia in 1998. The Miracle League at Town & Country has played four seasons — Spring & Fall 2006 and Spring & Fall 2007.

Where are the games played?

Games are played at the Town & Country Optimist Sports Complex located in northwest Austin. Games are played on The Round Rock Express Miracle Field, a state of the art field especially constructed for special needs children.

How is the Round Rock Express involved?

The Round Rock Express along with the Nolan Ryan Foundation purchased the naming rights to the field with a $250,000 donation to help construct the field and is involved in additional fund raising.

What kind of child qualifies to play?

Basically, any child that cannot play in standard recreational baseball can play in the Miracle League. Typically, it is children with mental and/or physical disabilities.

How many games will there be?

This Spring 2008 season, there will be seven games with games scheduled on Saturdays (Sundays may be used for makeup games if necessary) with each team playing at least one Saturday night game. The first game will be April 12th.

Does my child have to make each game?

One of the important aspects of the League is for the kids to feel part of a team. Part of that is committing to be at the games as much as possible.

Will there be practices?

There will be no required practices. Coaches may want to get the kids together to meet each other before the first game.

How are the games played?

The games are non-competitive, with each player batting, running the bases and scoring each inning. The teams will be limited to approximately 11-15 players. Games will last two innings, which typically last one hour.

How are Buddies involved?

Each player will have at least one “buddy” at each game. This buddy is there to protect the player from balls, assist the player in batting and running the bases and to be a friend on and off the field. Considering the availability and amount of Buddies, they will be assigned to the same child for the whole season. Buddies will be given a Miracle League shirt for their participation.  They are expected to arrive at games thirty minutes before the start of the game and to notify the Miracle League Buddy coordinator at least twenty-four hours prior to the game if they will not be able to make the game.  Buddies start at age 12.

What is the registration fee and how do I register my child to play?

Registration fee for this Spring is $50.00 and you can register by going to www.townandcountryoptimist.org and following the instructions. Each player will receive a baseball team hat and shirt. It is recommended each child have their own glove.

How can I volunteer?

The Miracle League at Town & Country is always looking for volunteers. We need volunteers to help manage the league and other duties including concession stand shifts, field day commissioners, etc. Please look for a board member or other volunteer out at the field during games and we will be happy to discuss how you may get involved.
